Giving When I Have Nothing

Christmas was coming and many of my friends were shopping for gifts for each other. I really wanted to get a gift for everyone but I did not have any money. I felt sad...

How can I provide gifts when I have nothing? I tried to find a job so I could make money but no one would hire a little boy. I begged strangers for money, but all I got was three dollars. Then one night I was sitting at my make-shift desk under the bridge, just drawing because drawing always entertained me when I had nothing to do.

Then I had an idea. The next day, I went to the store and bought some pencils and paper with one dollar. Then I started drawing, non-stop, all day long. The day after that, I used a quarter to get a newspaper to see if there were any crafts that I could make. Luckily, there was Chinese paper-cutting, origami, a free drawing for some money, and cartooning class. I decided to do the drawing for money and the cartooning class. The drawing could help me buy a small item for one of my friends or buy more classes to make more crafts.

So I went to the free drawing for money first. I did not win the free drawing for money contest but found a dollar and twenty-five cents in change on the ground. Three days later I went and did the cartooning class. There I learned how to make a flip book. When Christmas-Eve came, I bought some bags from the store. I put the drawings in the bags and dropped them off at every one of my friends houses.

I didn't get anything back, but I was happy I could give something, even though I started with nothing.
